The story of how we met is about as romantic as it gets - something that says, "these two were truly destined for each other."
For background, I have been a part of the CrossFit Merit community since it opened back in 2015. In August of 2019, I was getting ready to leave the US and continue my studies across the pond in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Shortly after I left, Brittaney found CrossFit Merit and become a part of the community. She and I did not know each other prior to this, but we would occasionally see or hear each other's names pop up in conversation or on the Facebook community page, so we had somewhat of an idea of who the other was.
Once COVID really hit hard in April of 2020, I came back home from school. During the lockdown, Merit had an ongoing video chat that you could pop in and out of as you please. It was through this app when Brittaney and I actually started communicating with each other, from her reacting to my top tier levels of comedy, to me reaching out about a neck ache she was having. This of course evolved into me sliding into her DMs on Facebook messenger.
Merit was having its first in-person gathering since lockdown, and we both knew that we were going to be in attendance, however, being the smooth operators that we both are, we basically didn't talk to each other at all.
Until...
The little kiddos brought us together. I was with Logan, Mark and Solange's daughter, and Brittaney was with Charlotte, Brett and Sarah's daughter. They took us over to a spot where we were playing on the ground... in some dirt! We still hadn't really said anything to each other in person, despite messaging each other beforehand, so I figured I should say something. I think to myself, "what could I say to really sweep her off her feet?" So in a very suave, smooth, and romantic manner, I say...
"This is some nice dirt."
...and she's been hooked ever since.
