How We Meet

Our love story began when we were college sweethearts at Alcorn State University. We met in our general engineering class and sat next to each other on the first day. We spoke, but Santwan grew quiet as the class went on. The next day, he moved to the back of the class because he didn't want to embarrass himself in front of me by not answering the professor's questions.

After our first semester together at Alcorn, we ran into each other at a campus restaurant. Santwan spoke first and asked if I remembered him. I honestly didn't, even though he sat behind me for an entire semester. But he quickly got over it and reintroduced himself. As we waited for our food, our conversation got interesting, and we didn't want it to end. We talked and finished our meals without noticing when friends came to our table to chat.

Santwan asked me what I was doing that weekend, and I said, "nothing, I don't really have anything planned." Then I asked him, "what are you doing this weekend?" And he responded, "spending it with you." He was so smooth! We exchanged numbers, and some of our first dates included going to Sunday Service at New Hope Baptist Church in Natchez MS, and bowling. Once classes resumed after spring break that semester, in which we spent the majority of the time talking on the phone, we made it official and the rest is history.
