Actually, we have never been to a destination wedding before. And no, it is not because we are crazy (well, maybe just a little). We weren't dared to go; we simply thought, “Why not give it a shot?” Since I turned eighteen, I’ve had the travel bug, and Bobby has been itching to travel more since we got together. However, the main factor in all of this came down to one thing: money. Weddings are ridiculously expensive! Never in a million years did I imagine how much they would cost.
I have always been a bridesmaid but never the bride, and while I've spent my fair share of money over the years in that role, it never occurred to me how much it costs to be a bride! If I had known, I would have started saving back in my Skateland days! (If you know, you know.)
We initially planned to elope in the mountains and then have a reception with all our friends. However, after reviewing the prices, we felt overwhelmed. My dear friend Stephanie, who works as a travel agent and is behind all the magic in the booking, casually suggested, "Have you thought about a destination wedding?" We exchanged glances and replied, "No, but is it cheaper?" That question marked the beginning of our journey.
As we spent more time researching destination weddings, we quickly fell in love with the idea. Now, there’s no turning back! While we’re saddened that not everyone may be able to join us on our special day, we are incredibly grateful for those who can attend and are committed to making the day memorable for all.
We look forward to sharing this journey with you, and I plan to blog throughout the process. My hope is to provide insights and support to future destination brides who may feel as lost as I once did!
XOXO,
Destinee
