As you may or may not know, as a couple, we were dating during my pregnancy with Olivia. After the birth, we decided to have an "adult's night out" which would consist of a night of just "Non-preggo Katie and Rob."
Every day after work, Rob would drive past the Jefferson Memorial around 7pm and notice that there was a beautiful sunset near the water. Rob decided that on our adult night that we could have a picnic near the memorial, enjoy each other's company, and then head to a nice dinner. Rob went above and beyond to organize the picnic.
Sonya, my co-worker, said she would take care of Olivia for the night. Rob and I got all dressed up for our exciting night and were headed to Sonya's house to drop off Olivia. As our luck would have it, it started to down pour. Roads were blocked off due to some of the flooding. We were both bummed but decided we could either reschedule the picnic for another time or just have it indoors at the apartment (yes, we know, it was our last resort!!).
I turned out that the skies turned blue and the sun came out as we headed back North. Rob and I traveled into the city to try for our picnic. We found a beautiful spot next to the water, where the grass wasn't even a bit wet. We enjoyed champagne, Cristal may I add, and Rob had the most amazing toast (which made me cry.) Still at this point, the blonde that I am, I had NO idea what was coming. Rob explained that he had a surprise for me and it involved food. So I closed my eyes and waited patiently. Rob proceeded and said "Okay, you can open." Another blonde comment came out of my mouth by asking "Do you want me to open my eyes or my mouth?" Honestly, I think it was a legit question, but we still laugh at it to this day. Rob calmly responded "You can open both."
I opened my eyes, which to my surprise; Rob was down on one knee in front of me. I was so excited and so surprised I kept saying over and over "Is this happening!? Are you really proposing!? Oh my gosh, really!?" The poor guy could not get a word out and finally had to say "Katie, can I continue?"
Rob's proposal speech was magical and the one line that stuck out the most was "I know this is soon, but I feel that a lifetime just isn't enough time for me to spend loving you." I immediately said YES!!! The entire proposal was absolutely perfect, including the beautiful engagement ring!
We continued our night by enjoying a very romantic dinner at Ruth's Chris while we enjoyed another bottle of wine and wonderful steak while we excitingly texted all our friends and family to share the news and pictures of the ring!!!
